I’ve been lucky to be able to work from home during this…crisis…and I’ve been using 15” MacBook Pro and a Dell 4K monitor for a second screen. It’s a nice setup—again, I’m really lucky and thankful—all the extra screen real estate is so nice for writing code and viewing images in QGIS all at the same time.

One thing that was less than optimal was changing the brightness of the Dell monitor throughout the day. The OSD menu is actually implemented quite well but it’s still clunky compared to changing the brightness on my laptop’s built-in display.

Enter Monitor Control (hat tip Reid Beels). This is such a great utility. After you launch it, pushing the monitor brightness buttons on your keyboard automatically adjusts the brightness of the monitor that’s displaying the active application.

Highly recommended if you’ve got a non-Apple display connected to your Mac. Thanks much to all the developers.
